Maison M'seddi
This bakery is popular with the locals in Montparnasse. They won accolades for their artisanal baguette, or the Baguette de Tradition in 2018.
I entered la maison last night at 8:00 p.m. and found many locals buying a single baguette.
The bakeries here are open from 7:00 am to 8:30 pm.
This one is open M-F.
According to a video I watched on Instagram they are open on Christmas morning! It looks like the Bûche de Noël, or Yule log, is ubiquitous at that time of the year.
The word baguette translates to “a wand”.
The French eat the baguette for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Every time you sit at an eating establishment (more on eating establishments in another post-there are so many types!!!), they bring you sliced baguette- generally, sans beurre (butter).
At breakfast it is served as a tartine, open lengthwise and spread with jam (they sometimes bring butter at breakfast-especially in tourist areas like the 1st and 2nd arrondissement).
At lunch it is a sandwich. And there are so many types…
For example a ham with butter or fresh mozzarella with tomatoes and basil, etc.
At dinner it is an accompaniment to the meal, and/or cheese course.
Boulangerie Maison M’seddi makes 20 varieties of bread, They also make incredible cakes, croissants, pizza, and pastries. It’s a veritable universe of gluten!
I bought a simple tartine with tomato, ham, cheese, and sliced black olives.
I came home and warmed it in the oven and ate it with a beer.
Yum, it was wonderful.
Bread is LITERALLY my favorite food.
And coffee!
